Stand up for your right

SPRING VALLEY (WABC) --

By Mallory Hoff

It looks like an ordinary 'help wanted' ad in a typical Pennysaver, but on closer examination, the newspaper ad clearly states there are some people who need not apply. In an October 15th edition, the help wanted ad in Pennysaver clearly states 'no Haitians'. Carl Henry Joseph was born in Haiti. He says the ad placed by Interim Healthcare Inc. should not be tolerated. State Senator David Carlucci agrees - he took note of the Interim Healthcare Inc. ad published in the Rockland County Pennysaver, an area with one of the highest Haitian population in the country. It is also part of the district he represents. "The ad placed is a blatant form of discrimination that cannot be tolerated in our community or in our state," says Senator Carlucci. Senator Carlucci also took to Twitter and Facebook to point out his frustrations. Now, he says action needs to be taken. Joseph says members of the community deserve a response from Interim Healthcare Inc. Eyewitness News has reached out to Interim Healthcare Inc. multiple times. They have not responded. In addition, Eyewitness News has also reached out to Pennysaver about the decision to publish the ad - they have not responded either.
